So what’s it about?

In this exciting debut comes a fast-paced thriller that follows a sports reporter’s journey off the court…and into a world of murder and deception.

Former Olympic athlete and sports reporter Kate Green isn’t sure how much more tumultuous her life can get. She’s been put on temporary leave from her job, then NBA superstar Kurt Robbins is killed and the prime suspect in his murder is none other than his wife…and Kate’s best friend.

Kate knows that Yvette’s marriage wasn’t exactly stable, but her friend is no murderer, and Kate is determined to prove it with her own investigation. While she tries to salvage Yvette’s life, Kate’s own continues to unravel. Her career is in limbo. Gossip columns speculate about her future. Her children are battling their own demons. And her estranged father suddenly reenters her life as a detective assigned to Kurt’s homicide case.

As her worlds collide—exposing secrets, lies, and ulterior motives—Kate may have to choose between the games she can play and the one she might lose.

Inspired by Elise’s experiences chasing marquee athletes through the tunnels of Madison Square Garden and standing before glaring lights reporting to national audiences, LIGHTS OUT takes readers on an adrenaline-pumping ride to uncover the truth. This propelling and entertaining novel is ideal for fans of Ruth Ware, Harlan Coban, and Rachel Hawkins.

The Author says:

“In LIGHTS OUT, I wanted to explore the fame and fortune that comes with being a professional athlete at the pinnacle of success. Fame and fortune can burn so bright that it scorches. It also provides a lot of fodder for a thriller writer. What’s better to write about than jealousy, glamor, and greed?”

Excerpt #2

“Kurt also adores the spotlight. Handsome with a chiseled face, warm brown eyes, and a quick smile. He easily moves from volunteering at food pantries to partying at exclusive nightclubs. The tabloids love and hate him, jumping from singing his praise one day to completely shredding him the next. As a retired athlete, I respect Kurt the player. He’s always the first one at practice and the last one to leave. Through and through he embodies a true competitor.

Kurt Robbins the husband, however? That guy sucks. A lot of people question why Yvette stays married to him. Her go to excuse is that the cheating Kurt doesn’t represent the real Kurt—that fame and money corrupted him. He was in the church choir when we met in middle school, she always says about their childhood in upstate New York. He just doesn’t know how to navigate stardom. I mean these women throw themselves at him.

Yvette explained the real reason she stayed with a cheating husband on our first annual girls’ weekend away, which must be fifteen years ago. It was that weekend when I felt our friendship moved toward something special.”
