I totally just picked the thinnest book off my physical tbr (I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed over here 😅) and am so glad it exceeded my expectations. I totally could have read it in a couple days if not for life getting in the way, lol. I hadn’t realized the author also wrote The Last Flight bc I hadn’t read the synopsis since before I bought it, but I have it and remember now hearing a lot of buzz about that one so I am looking forward to digging in!

Margie: Fantastic Read The Other Side of Mrs. Wood by Lucy Barker
Just cruising Amazon recommendations…it looked interesting, I read the sample and was immediately hooked. The world of 19th century mediums is a fascinating topic, particularly because lots of smart 19th century scientists were followers, and it makes you wonder why.
I realize this might not fit a category exa, but it’s a great book.
Lucy Barker has given us an amazing story about 19th spiritualism inspired by two real life London spiritualists. It is beautifully written…the characters are wonderfully developed…as are the settings. And loads of suspense! It is easy to visualize everything. I particularly like how the twist is handled. I devoured this in almost one day. There’s a wonderful Author’s Note at the end that shouldn’t be missed. Highly recommended for anyone. Looking forward to Ms. Barker’s next book.

Kathy: Best of 2021 —> I had never read this author before and this book was definitely a departure for books that I typically read as a romance was not the major theme of the book. …This book had everything from tears to laughs.

Jackie: The Guncle by Steven Rowely has two hilarious kids. The uncle, GUP (short for Gay Uncle Patrick) is cut from the same cloth as Jeff Lewis (from Flipping Out) and these two kids are the perfect foil for his level of snarkiness. Definitely recommend this book.
