So what’s it about?

In this exciting debut comes a fast-paced thriller that follows a sports reporter’s journey off the court…and into a world of murder and deception.

Former Olympic athlete and sports reporter Kate Green isn’t sure how much more tumultuous her life can get. She’s been put on temporary leave from her job, then NBA superstar Kurt Robbins is killed and the prime suspect in his murder is none other than his wife…and Kate’s best friend.

Kate knows that Yvette’s marriage wasn’t exactly stable, but her friend is no murderer, and Kate is determined to prove it with her own investigation. While she tries to salvage Yvette’s life, Kate’s own continues to unravel. Her career is in limbo. Gossip columns speculate about her future. Her children are battling their own demons. And her estranged father suddenly reenters her life as a detective assigned to Kurt’s homicide case.

As her worlds collide—exposing secrets, lies, and ulterior motives—Kate may have to choose between the games she can play and the one she might lose.

Inspired by Elise’s experiences chasing marquee athletes through the tunnels of Madison Square Garden and standing before glaring lights reporting to national audiences, LIGHTS OUT takes readers on an adrenaline-pumping ride to uncover the truth. This propelling and entertaining novel is ideal for fans of Ruth Ware, Harlan Coban, and Rachel Hawkins.

Look for DANGEROUS PLAY, Book 2 in the Kate Green series, Fall 2024

The Author says:

“As a former television sports reporter I wanted to write a domestic thriller whose heroine had the same occupation. But that’s kind of where the similarities end because Kate Green is way cooler than me. Where I’m a soccer mom, she’s an Olympic soccer gold medalist. I chase my three dogs around the yard, she chases bad guys through the mansions of Greenwich, Connecticut and the hidden tunnels of Madison Square Garden. And, of course, her demons are way more interesting and darker than mine.”

Fun Facts about the author:

  1. Elise, all of five feet, often stood on a milk crate to interview the athletes she interviewed.

  2. One of Elise’s favorite events to cover was March Madness.

  3. Venus Williams was one of the nicest athletes Elise interviewed.

  4. Former Yankee manager, Joe Torre, gave Elise and her husband advice on where to visit when they honeymooned in Hawaii.

  5.  Elise started her on-air career as a news reporter on Long Island and then moved to WNBC-TV, NYC

Excerpt #1

“Christie tilts her head like a little bird. “You know—I worry about Yvette. How does she handle Kurt’s affairs? They’re so public. I feel so sorry for the poor dear. And that article today in Starz…”

“Yvette doesn’t need anyone’s pity,” I snap, aware, Christie is probably saying similar things about me to other moms. Poor Kate, did you see that video? And she’s out of a job now.

I study all five feet of Christie, who wears heavy bronzer and shoves her thin frame into tight exercise outfits that come in varying shades of pinks and purples.

As a former Olympic soccer player, I boast an athletic body, lithe but strong. I have thick, long honey-colored hair, which could never conform to a bob even if I wanted that. I don’t like bronzer, making do with my fair skin and I line my blue eyes with dark pencil; more Greenwich Village than Greenwich, Connecticut. And, for the record, I never, ever wear pastels, preferring a wardrobe of blacks, browns, and grays.

Christie seems undeterred by my retort and steps so close I can smell yogurt on her breath. “Do you ever see Kurt with other women when you cover his games?”

“That’s a ridiculous question.” I turn from her and pick up a spider web to hang. Not one for lying, I have no problem deflecting or avoiding.”
